John "Jack" M. Sullivan is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Idaho's College of Science. His research focuses on evolutionary biology, phylogenetic methods, and genetic diversity patterns in Pacific Northwest forest species. He leads the Sullivan Lab and holds a Ph.D. in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology from the University of Connecticut (1995), with earlier degrees from the University of Vermont (M.S. 1990, B.A. 1985).
- Education:
- Ph.D., Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, University of Connecticut, 1995
- M.S., Zoology, University of Vermont, 1990
- B.A., Zoology, University of Vermont, 1985
Research interests include refining phylogenetic methodologies, analyzing genetic impacts of hybridization in chipmunks, and investigating historical biogeographic influences on forest species. His work bridges evolutionary theory with applications in forensics, bioinformatics, and conservation biology.
Lab activities emphasize model-based DNA sequence analysis and comparative phylogeography, addressing questions of speciation with gene flow and landscape genetics.
